Description
TURMARES (acronym of Turismo Marítimo del Estrecho), is a company created at the end of 1999 by a group of people from Tarifa, professionals of the sea and experts in the Strait of Gibraltar. The original main activity was maritime tourism and, specifically, the activity of dolphin and whale watching in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar.
At present, these tasks are complemented with scientific and informative projects related to the conservation of the marine environment and cetaceans in particular; developed jointly with universities, organisations dedicated to environmental research and conservation, the Regional Ministries of the Environment and Tourism, and Trade and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government, etc. The result of this work is the significant support and participation in numerous courses, conferences and international congresses related to this subject.
TURMARES is currently aiming for leadership in the tourism sector at a national and international level, trying to achieve the greatest possible recognition both at a market level and from the point of view of its social and environmental responsibility. Especially if we take into account that the object of its activity is a living resource of the natural environment, scarce, fragile and that it is necessary to preserve and be used in a coherent way by the local community of the destination in order to generate social welfare.
